Let's face it: Some days the food is the best part of watching The Big Game. But you can’t be tied up all afternoon in the kitchen. So we’ve devised a simple, flavorful menu that easily can be prepared in advance.
For pre-game munchies, set out plenty of salsa and tortilla chips along with our Organic Valley Queso Fundido with sausages and peppers. Our spicy red chile hot wings can be made in advance and reheated. Re-think the run-of-the-mill choices on a raw vegetable platter: Add slices of peeled jícama, sweet red bell pepper slices, inner spears of Romaine and thin slices of fresh fennel.
Then comes chili, a perennial cold-weather favorite. Start with our award-winning (seriously—we won a Time Out Chicago Award with it a couple of years ago) Big City Chili, a robust combination of beef and pork, Frontera Salsa and a good dose of Negra Modelo. The chili actually gets better when made a day or two in advance and reheated before serving. Set out small bowls of your favorite chili garnishes from cilantro to cheese and tortilla chips for guests to add as they wish.
Cornbread makes a great accompaniment to the chili—we like ours spiked with zesty green chili and sharp cheese. Measure and prepare all the ingredients for the bread a day in advance, then make the batter and bake the bread a few hours before serving. Pop it into a warm oven before cutting into squares.
