Recipeace Day

 

Today is RECIPEACE DAY!

 

Recipeace is a social movement created by Leo Burnett and Peace One Day, a UK-based non-profit organization, to bring people together over food in support of Peace Day on September 21. Nothing brings people together better than food, and the Recipeace movement symbolizes the importance of peace on both a global and individual level. To learn more about the Recipeace movement, check out recipeaceday.org and pledge for peace.

Leo Burnett has partnered with a UK-based non-profit organization called Peace One Day to help create awareness about Peace Day, coming up on September 21. Through a social movement called Recipeace, Leo Burnett aims to bring people together over food to settle their differences. By visiting recipeaceday.org, people can get involved with the movement by pledging for peace and by dining at one of the 60 plus participating restaurants in the Chicagoland area.

We’ve joined forces with our friends at River Valley Ranch, Iron Creek Farm and Nichols Farm to cook up some amazing taco filling samples that combo market-fresh veggies with Frontera Taco Skillet Sauces. We headed out bright and early one Saturday and caught up with Frontera staffer Chelsea Hoffman, who filled us in and filled us up!

 

Chelsea, what are these tasty looking little taco treats?
We're passing out samples of our Frontera Chipotle Garlic Farmers Market Mushroom Taco filling on our Thick and Crunchy chips with fresh cilantro.

 

Really, isn’t that sauce made for steak?
Although the Frontera Skillet Sauces are traditional to some types of protein, I've found that once I understand the flavor profiles of the different chiles, I'm able to substitute in other items than what the main recipe might call for. Swapping fresh mushrooms for steak nice and easy, especially with the mushroom medley from River Valley Ranch.

 

Very cool. Where is River Valley Ranch?
River Valley Ranch is owned by Eric Rose and his family and is located just outside of Burlington, Wisconsin.

 

What’s Frontera doing in a Farmers Market anyway?
Chef Rick Bayless has always been a huge supporter of local farms — partnering with them as restaurant suppliers as well as creating the Frontera Farmer Foundation, which supports Midwest farms with capitol projects. We wanted to find another way, outside of the restaurants, to support local farmers in their respective markets in the area. Plus, we love to be outside in the summer!

 

These taco filling samples are totally working for me. Can I have another?
