|Behind the Scenes Baja: Episode 12|

"This is going to be the worst dinner party you've ever been to," our director Scott likes to say. Not because the food isn't good--of course not, this is Rick Bayless after all—but because filming a good television episode doesn't always jibe with the flow of a good party. You know, like getting your food in a timely manner and having a nice conversation without a camera in your face.
Nevertheless, all the guests and crew had a blast on our last full day of shooting at Adobe Guadalupe, a gorgeous winery and inn in the Valle de Guadalupe, Mexico's wine country. It was a fitting end to the trip: the meal, as you can see in the footage, was gorgeous. From the wood-roasted local lamb to a beautiful salad of fresh mussels with a poblano dressing, everything was delicious.
Check out the video to see our experience shopping for ingredients in Tijuana and in some markets around the area, as well as the beautiful farm-style kitchen where we set to work with Rick prepping, cooking, and filming. (Luckily, some of us on the crew are decent cooks, so we all pitched in in the frenzy to get it all done.) Not to miss: Rick butchering the local leg of lamb with a giant machete!
It's hard to believe the trip is over, and it's been quite an experience filming the season. We're happy you could come along for the ride! Stay tuned to your local PBS station for the 8th season of Mexico--One Plate at a Time, beginning to air this fall.
